UNITE HERE HEALTH Advanced Care Technician - Urgent Care in Las Vegas, Nevada

The Culinary Health Center is dedicated to helping our Culinary members live healthier lives. Our medical partner, USACS, will provide an Urgent Care at the Culinary Health Center. This position will be employed by USACS and work within the Culinary Health Center.

As a part of the Urgent Care team the Advanced Care Tech will deliver competent and skilled care to patients and families according to their identified needs. The Advanced Care Tech will participate in the medical and nursing plans of care as directed, and deliver care with a team-orientation, an emphasis on patient experience, and sound clinical skills. The Advanced Care Tech will prioritize tasks/procedures delegating when appropriate.

  • Perform the following procedures with written order and supervision of a licensed physician:

  • Administration of medication; limited to antipyretics; topical admixtures of Neosporin, Silvadene and LET; and IV solutions without additives.

  • Insertion of urethral bladder catheters

  • Insertion of nasogastric catheters

  • Wound cleansing

  • Application of sterile dressings and topical skin adhesive

  • Applies and monitors oxygen

  • Prepare and deliver nebulized respiratory meds

  • Perform the following procedures as delegated by a registered nurse:

  • Peripheral venipuncture

  • Application of extremity splints and elastic bandages

  • Fits and adjusts crutches, instructs patients in crutch walking technique

  • Oral, nasal, nasotracheal, and endotracheal suction

  • Recognizes and reports appropriately basic dysrhythmias

  • Suture and staple removal

  • Otic irrigations

  • Immobilizes patients for procedures

  • Collection, reporting and documentation of data (excluding initial and discharge nursing assessment).

  • Inventories and maintains appropriate levels of supplies

  • Assists with environmental maintenance

  • Performs Patient Transport

  • Accompanies / monitors patients between clinical areas

  • Accompanies / monitors patients during diagnostic / therapeutic procedures outside the unit as deemed appropriate by the registered nurse

  • Performs Assessment

  • Demonstrates interpretative assessment and /or problem solving abilities Recognizes deviations from normal or baseline and reports changes to the R. N.

  • Uses sound professional judgment in the performance of job duties

  • Utilizes the Nursing department chain of command for Health Center related problems

  • Effectively coordinates care with physician/nurse and other members of the patient care team

  • Performs Evaluation

  • Demonstrates effectiveness and correctness in procedures performed, services provided and assignments completed

  • Takes follow-up actions and evaluates these actions

  • Demonstrates familiarity with operations of equipment utilized in the department

  • Follows reporting and repair procedure for equipment malfunction

  • Documentation

  • Demonstrates proper documentation and record keeping considering completeness, accuracy and timeliness. Documentation is pertinent

  • Develops appropriate reports, tallies, etc. from records

  • Demonstrates accurate, legible and timely recordings of data.

  • External Interaction

  • Demonstrates effectiveness of interpersonal relations with patients, families and other customers

  • Generates a positive overall impact on customers

  • Performs CPR

  • Provides for fair and courteous treatment of patients, families, visitors, and staff. Maintains appropriate confidentiality

  • Participates in all departmental and medical center mandatory inservices. Maintains current BCLS and ACLS certification and state EMT-P certification

  • Practices within Health Center and departmental policies and procedures

  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to change

  • Demonstrates sound clinical professional judgment and maintains a high standard of personal credibility. Exhibits professional character, attitude, and appearance

High School diploma or GED

Licensure, registration and/or Certification

Certified EMT-Paramedic Current BLS and ACLS

Work Experience

1-2 years’ experience as a Paramedic

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of basic and advanced life support techniques, pharmacology and clinical pathways Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

Ability to organize and prioritize work and direct others accordingly

Ability to be detail oriented as required in the examination of clinical and numeric data

Decision Making

Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field

Working Relationships

This position reports to:

Medical Director or designated physician for the completion of physician orders specified above

Designated nurse for the completion of delegated nursing functions, and all aspects of personnel management Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise)

Works directly with patients Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interactions

Works with other healthcare professionals and staff
